Rex v. Singh, a film by Ali Kazimi, explores a famous case in Vancouver a century ago that revealed the complex entwining of anti-Sikh discrimination and anti-sodomy legislation. Based on the historical research of local historian Brent Ingram, Kazimi’s film examines from four perspectives the power dynamics of Vancouver and B.C. society in the early 20th century. Film maker Ali Kazimi, and historians Brent Ingram and Dave Sangha will speak after the film showing on a panel exploring the history of anti-gay legislation and white supremacy.
