Memorial Dogwood Tree

This Chinese Dogwood was planted in memory of Dagmar Bonkowski who was a library assistant at UBC from 1978 to 2004.  Prior to joining UBC Library, Dagmar worked at the Vancouver Public Library and in the library at BCIT.  Her first position with UBC Library was as an assistant with Special Collections in Main Library (now, the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre).  In 1981, Dagmar joined the Circulation department in the Law Library.

When not at work she loved to go for walks and enjoy nature. This particular tree was chosen to honor Dagmar because of a special connection to a dogwood in the yard of her childhood home.  With the demolition of the old Law Library, we will be moving the tree to an appropriate location, just to the east of Allard Hall.
